Several reports in Ottawa have indicated that the Senators have entered into negotiations with Jason Spezza on a contract extension. The deals are rumoured to be in the neighbourhood of 6 or 7 years at around $7.5 million a year. Spezza, who is an RFA next offseason, is also the new cover athlete and official spokesman for the NHL 2K8 video game. Source
Michael Peca is waiting if the New York Rangers will offer him a contract. The Rangers are currently over the cap, and may have to trade some players to fit Peca into the team.
There has been no word on the Stephen Weiss contract negotiations, and several teams including Toronto, Phoenix and Nashville have been watching closely.
