NHL and Hockey Rumors for Jan 30, 2014

The Anaheim Ducks have re-signed defenseman Mark Fistric to a three-year, $3.8 million contract extension.

The Dallas Stars have re-signed forward Ryan Garbutt to a three-year, $5.4 million contract extension.

The Ducks have also signed forward John Kurtz to a one-year contract extension.

The Calgary Flames have placed forward Blair Jones on waivers.

The Philadelphia Flyers have placed forward Chris VandeVelde on waivers.

According to TSN, the New York Rangers will look to trade forward Ryan Callahan and defenseman Dan Girardi if they cannot sign them before the NHL Trade deadline.  Both Callahan and Girardi are impending UFAs.

NHL and Hockey Rumors for Jan 28, 2014

The San Jose Sharks have re-signed both forwards Patrick Marleau and Joe Thornton to three-year contract extensions.  Marleau's is $6.66 million per year while Thornton's is $6.75 million.

The Detroit Red Wings have placed forward Michael Samuelsson on waivers.

The Calgary Flames have placed defenseman Shane O'Brien on waivers.

Vinny Prospal has changed his mind about a comeback and retired from hockey.

Marco Sturm has officially announced his retirement.

Both Edmonton Oilers GM Craig MacTavish and President Kevin Lowe were watching the Philadelphia Flyers - Boston Bruins game.  Brochu's take:  You would think the Oilers would start selling some of their assets, as they're headed for the 1st overall pick in the 2014 NHL draft.

According to Insider Trading on TSN, the Dallas Stars are looking to unload veterans Ray Whitney and Sergei Gonchar.

The Vancouver Canucks are interested in Colorado Avalanche forward Ryan O'Reilly.  O'Reilly will be eligible to be traded near the NHL trade deadline.

The Carolina Hurricanes have made Tuomo Ruutu, Jiri Tlusty, Riley Nash, Drayson Bowman and Brett Bellemore available to all NHL teams.

The Canucks are also looking to trade forward Dale Weise.

The Tampa Bay Lightning have made Keith Aulie and Tom Pyatt available.

The Phoenix Coyotes have placed defenseman Rostislav Klesla on waivers.

The Edmonton Oilers have traded goalie DevaMn Dubnyk to the Nashville Predators in exchange for forward Matt Hendricks.

The Los Angeles Kings have traded goalie Ben Scrivens to the Edmonton Oilers in exchange for a third round pick in the 2014 NHL Draft.

Washington Capitals GM George McPhee was spotted at the the Toronto Maple Leafs - Buffalo Sabres game on Wednesday.  There's speculation that he was looking a particular Sabre player.  Brochu's take:  A lot of NHL teams will be looking to the Sabres for playoff help, and a player like Matt Moulson could help a lot of teams.

The St. Louis Blues have signed forward Ryan Reaves to a four-year, $4.5 million contract extension.

The Senators have signed GM Bryan Murray to a two-year contract extension.

There is speculation that the Buffalo Sabres are shopping forward Steve Ott.  Sportsnet is indicating that the Vancouver Canucks and Detroit Red Wings could be interested.

The Buffalo Sabres have hired ex-Ottawa Senators assistant GM as their new General Manager.

NHL and Hockey Rumors for Jan 6, 2014

The Los Angeles Kings have traded forward Dan Carcillo to the New York Rangers in exchange for a 7th round pick in the 2014 NHL Draft.

The Anaheim Ducks have re-signed forward Andrew Cogliano to a 4-year, $12 million contract extension.

Gilbert Brule has cleared unconditional waivers and the Phoenix Coyotes have terminated his contract.

The New York Rangers have placed goalie Martin Biron on unconditional waivers.  Brochu's take:  There are rumors that he may come out of retirement.  Several NHL teams could be interested.

The Vancouver Canucks have signed goalie Rob Laurie to a one day Professional Try-Out contract.  Brochu's take:  Roberto Luongo was injured in Anaheim and the Canucks needed a backup.  Laurie also signed a PTO for the Ducks a few years back in the same situation.

According to the CBC Hotstove, the Edmonton Oilers may be considering trading forward Sam Gagner.  Gagner does not have a no trade clause.  Brochu's take:  Several teams could be interested, including the New York Rangers and Toronto Maple Leafs.

The Hotstove panel also discussed that speculation around New York Rangers defenseman Michael Del Zotto has increased.

The Nashville Predators have signed defenseman Jonathan-Ismael Diaby to a three-year, entry-level contract.  Diaby was the Preds' 64th overall pick in the 2013 NHL Entry Draft.

The New York Rangers have signed forward Anthony Duclair to an entry-level contract.  Duclair was the 80th choice in the 2013 NHL Draft.

The Calgary Flames have signed forward Emile Poirier to a three-year, entry-level contract.  Poirier was the Flames' first round pick in the 2013 NHL Entry Draft.

The Winnipeg Jets have signed forward Ryan Olsen to a three-year, two-way, entry-level contract.  Olsen was the Jets' sixth round pick in the 2012 NHL Entry Draft.

The Jets have also signed forward Nic Petan to a three-year, entry-level contract.  Petan was the Jets' second round pick in the 2013 NHL Entry Draft.

The Columbus Blue Jackets have signed forward Kerby Rychel to a three-year, entry-level contract.  Rychel was the Jacket's second of three picks in the first round of the 2013 NHL Draft.

NHL and Hockey Rumors for Jan 2, 2014

The Toronto Maple Leafs have traded defenseman John-Michael Liles and defenseman Dennis Robertson to the Carolina Hurricanes in exchange for defenseman Tim Gleason.  Brochu's take:  This was hinted by Darren Dreger yesterday.  A very even trade in terms of salary.

The Toronto Maple Leafs have officially re-signed defenseman Dion Phaneuf to a 7-year, $49 million contract extension.

The Calgary Flames have placed defenseman Christopher Breen on waivers.

The New York Rangers have placed forward Taylor Pyatt on waivers.
