Kings re-sign Johnson

The LA Kings have re-signed defenseman Jack Johnson to a 7-year contract extension with a cap hit of 4.36 million per year.  Brochu's take: An excellent deal for the Kings.  If Johnson hits his peak in the next 2-3 years, he is easily a 5-6 million player.

The Anaheim Ducks have acquired defenseman Nate Guenin from the Columbus Blue Jackets for center Trevor Smith.

The Tampa Bay Lightning have signed defenseman Marc-Andre Bergeron to a one-year, $1 million contract.

Hockey and NHL Rumors for Jan 4, 2011

The Philadelphia Flyers have placed goalie Michael Leighton on waivers.  Brochu's take:  Leighton led the Flyers to the Stanley Cup Finals a year ago, and now they let him go.  So much for loyalty.


The Phoenix Coyotes have placed forward Petr Prucha on re-entry waivers.  Brochu's take:  The Penguins, Flames and Maple Leafs all have interest the Czech winger.


The Pittsburgh Penguins have signed defenseman Deryk Engelland to a three-year, $1.7 million contract extension.

Wild sign Ortmeyer

The Minnesota Wild have signed forward Jed Ortmeyer to a professional tryout contract.
