Forsberg injury update, goalies being moved?

Peter Forsberg's doctor has not given up hope on correcting Foppa's foot problem. Bertil Romanus, who performed the operation on Forsberg's foot in June, believes that there is a "possibility that the problem can be corrected." Romanus and Foppa spoke on Tuesday and both agreed that the doctor must examine the foot before any further decisions can be made. However, Romanus is currently vacationing in Phoenix and will not return to Sweden for 3 more weeks. It is not known if Forsberg will fly out to the United States to see him. Source

According to radio reports in Montreal, there is some speculation that the Pittsburgh Penguins have inquired about the availablity of Cristobal Huet and Michael Ryder. The Penguins have been rumoured for sometime to be looking for goaltending help.

Marty York of Metro News is reporting that the Penguins and Tampa Bay Lightning "have contacted the Dallas Stars in recent days in efforts to acquire veteran Marty Turco. " Source

Various sources have confirmed that Eric Lindros will announce his retirement at a press conference on Thursday.

The lawyer for Steve Moore has rejected a $350,000 offer to settle the player's $15-million lawsuit against Todd Bertuzzi and the former parent company of the Vancouver Canucks, according to recently filed documents in Ontario Superior Court. Source

Brian Burke to the Maple Leafs?

According to Howard Berger, Brian Burke may head up the Leafs organization in the near future. Citing sources, Berger insists that Burke wants to work in a hockey-first city and is interested in the Maple Leafs GM job. However, Burke is signed until the end of the 2008-2009 season, and is very happy with his tenure with the Ducks. Burke also has a close relationship with the Ducks owners, the Samuelis. Source

Eric Lindros has all but officially announced his retirement. During the press conference for Paul Kelly's official introduction as the head of the NHLPA, Lindros admitted that his on-ice hockey career is nearly over. Lindros was on the search committee for the executive director and is hotly tipped to be the favourite for the new ombudsman position. Source

According to Bill Watters on AM 640 in Toronto, Mats Sundin should be traded. Watters believes that Sundin would waive his no trade clause if it gives him a chance to win a Stanley Cup. The likely return would be prospect and draft picks. Source

Thomas Vanek has won the Sportsman of the Year award in his native Austria. The award is usually dominated by skiers, and Vanek's achievements will hopefully increase the interest in hockey in that country. Source

Selanne update

According to the official Ducks website, the Finnish interview reported yesterday was not true. Selanne has not talked to anybody about retiring and is looking forward to returning to the United States to decide his future. Source

With Alexander Svitov abandoning the Blue Jackets to sign with Avangard Omsk, could the Jackets be looking for help in their forwards? GM Scott Howson may be looking for help via the UFA route, as there are still some forwards such as Eric Lindros and Jason Allison still available.

There's a rumour that Trevor Linden has signed a one year, $750,000 deal with the Vancouver Canucks and will be announced officially on Monday.

John Ferguson Jr. on thin ice?

Mark Bell's jail sentence could be the final death knoll on John Ferguson Jr.'s tenure with the Maple Leafs. Rumours have swirled that if it is revealed that Ferguson knew about Bell's problem before the trade, he will be fired. Also, it's possible that Bell could be suspended by the team or his contract be voided for the year. Source
