The Phoenix Coyotes have signed forward Robert Lang to a one-year, $2.5 million contract.

Hockey and NHL rumors for Sept 6, 2009
The Chicago Blackhawks have traded their 2nd round pick in the 2010 NHL Entry Draft to the Toronto Maple Leafs for a 2nd and 3rd round pick in the 2011 draft. TSN is reporting that there are rumors that GM Brian Burke may throw an offer sheet to Boston Bruins restricted free agent forward Phil Kessel. Brochu's take: Burke can give an offer sheet, now that he has that 2nd round pick. But I don't think he will, considering his dislike for offer sheets in general.
The Anaheim Ducks have traded forward Jason Bailey to the Ottawa Senators for forward Shawn Weller.
The Ducks have signed defenseman Steve Eminger to a two-year, $2.25 million contract.
The Edmonton Oilers have re-signed forward Rob Schremp to a one-year contract. Brochu's take: I think Schremp will be a big trade chip for the Oilers this season, and look for him to be possibly moved at the trade deadline.

NHL and Hockey Rumors for Jan 13, 2009
Speculation around the NHL and hockey world is growing about the possibility of the Tampa Bay Lightning trading forward Vincent Lecavalier. Bob McKenzie notes that it's up to Lecavalier if he wants to stay in Tampa, or be traded. His no trade clause does not kick in until July 1st. McKenzie also noted that the the proposed deal with the Montreal Canadiens includes Tomas Plekanec, Chris Higgins, Josh Gorges, prospect P.K. Subban and a package of draft picks (including a first rounder ). Source
La Presse is also reporting that the Los Angeles Kings, Edmonton Oilers and New York Rangers could be interested. Brochu's take: Forget the Rangers, their lack of salary cap space is what prevented Mats Sundin from signing there. The Kings and Oilers have the cap room, but do they have the assets? Rumours are that any package from the Oilers would have to include forwards Shawn Horcoff and Rob Schremp. The Lightning would also like Alexander Frolov from LA. Source

Teams can only collect their share of the revenue-sharing money if they attain certain revenue and attendance targets. Also, the Coyotes last week laid off 18 staff members, approximately 10% of their staff. Rumors of contraction have spread through the league as well. Brochu's take: The CBC Hotstove panel were discussing the possibility ( and implementation) of the dispersal draft already! Before we talk about the "c" word, I believe the league and NHL will do everything possible to relocate the franchise first.

According to Bob McKenzie's blog on TSN.ca, Toronto Maple Leafs GM Cliff Fletcher may not be done with moves, and more trades could be coming in the next few weeks. Both coach Ron Wilson and soon-to-be Leafs GM Brian Burke denied any involvement in the trade. Brochu's take: Both Alex Steen and Carlo Colaiacovo have been in Wilson's doghouse all season, so it's not surprising that they were traded. It appears Fletcher wants to go out with a bang before Burke takes over.
Jeffrey Simpson of the Globe and Mail believe the Ottawa Senators should wipe the slate clean and fire GM Bryan Murray. Simpson blames Murray for all his personnel decisions, and suggests that Steve Yzerman or even Pierre McGuire should be the Sens new GM. Brochu's take: Simpson sounds like he has an axe to grind against Murray and former Sens GM John Muckler. Yzerman has a comfy position in Detroit and may not be quite ready for full GM duties. McGuire has been approached by many teams in the past, but seems happy with his position at TSN. Source
During the FSS broadcast of the Carolina Hurricanes-Florida Panthers game Monday, New Jersey Devils GM Lou Lamoriello was spotted taking in the game in a luxury box with Boston Bruins legend Bobby Orr. Brochu's take: The Devils play the Panthers Wednesday. But they don't play the Canes until January. Perhaps a little bit of scouting?
According to sources in Montreal, Canadiens assistant GM Pierre Gauthier has been spotted at the last 2 games of the AHL Springfield Falcons, the Edmonton Oilers affiliate. The rumor is that they are looking at forward Rob Schremp. Brochu's take: The Canadiens are looking for bit more punch in their offense, and Schremp could fit that role.
The Columbus Dispatch Blue Jackets blog "Puck-rakers" is reporting that "former Blue Jackets assistant general manager Jim Clark is in the building. He's now scouting for the Ottawa Senators. The interesting part of this, of course, is that the Senators are scouting the Blue Jackets ... again." Brochu's take: The Senators scouting staff have pretty much been setting camp in Columbus; you have to wonder when a trade will happen. Word is that the Sens are interested in Jason Chimera. Source

NHL rumors for April 5, 2008
According to the Pipeline Show Blog, Edmonton Oilers prospect Rob Schremp has been given an offer to play in Finland. Earlier in the week, it was rumored that Swedish teams were talking to his agent, but that was denied. However, there have been approaches from a SM-Liiga team to Schremp's Sweden representative. Brochu's take: If Schremp does take an offer from Europe, I can see the Oilers trading his rights. Source
Edmonton Journal writer Curtis Stock reported on his blog that the Calgary Flames are rumoured to have re-signed forward Daymond Langkow to a 4-year, $20 million contract. The contract also involves a no trade clause. Stock also reported that this effectively ends Kristian Huselius's tenure in Calgary. The Oilers are reported interested in signing Huselius. Brochu's take: Langkow was one of the top centres in the potential UFA market. However, the Flames are starting to get near their cap for next year and rumors will fly about who will get traded. As for Huselius, he could get $5-5.5 million on the open market. Source

The Philadelphia Flyers have signed forward Andreas Nodl and defenseman Michael Ratchuk to entry-level contracts on Friday. Both will report to the AHL Philadelphia Phantoms.

Shremp rumor update, Jagr to Russia?
According to to Oilers blog The Pipeline Show Blog, Rob Schremp's agent Scott Norton has denied that Schremp has had any real contact with Swedish teams. Norton believes that a person on the internet contacted Shremp about the possibility of playing in Europe in general terms, but there has been no official contact from any club. Norton did admit that Schremp is "not happy" with his current situation. Brochu's take: The Edmonton Oilers may have to deal with Schremp sometime this summer, and may have to decide if he is part of their future. Schremp could be used as a trading chip in the off-season, as he is pursued by several teams.
New York Rangers forward Jaromir Jagr is scheduled to meet with Russian team Avangard Omsk this weekend to discuss a contract for next year. Rangers GM Glen Sather is already scheduled to meet Omsk GM Anatoly Bardin about prospect Alexei Cherepanov coming to North America. With Jagr scheduled to become an unrestricted free agent this summer because he failed to meet performance bonuses, he may be too pricey for the Rangers to re-sign. Brochu's take: This could be a bargaining tactic by Jagr to get a better contract, but he does genuinely like playing in Russia. Cherepanov stated in a previous interview that he would remain in Russia for another year, but it's possible that the Rangers could arrange an agreement to get Cherepanov out of his contract with Omsk. Schremp, Parenteau to play in Sweden?
According to a Swedish source, Edmonton Oilers prospect Rob Schremp is rumored to play in Sweden next year. The Malmo Redhawks of the Swedish Elite League has apparently offered Schremp a contract for next year, somewhere in the 170, 000 Kronor a week (approximately US $28, 500). Brochu's take: Something tells me that this could be the work of Schremp's agent, who's seen his client overpassed by several other young Oiler prospects. There may be room for Schremp on the Oilers' roster next season, but if he doesn't make it, I don't think he will be satisfied playing in the AHL for another year. Source

Doan to Edmonton?
According to Bob Stauffer of the TEAM 1260 in Edmonton, Shane Doan could be moved in the first 40 games of the season. Stauffer is citing a Phoenix source, and it's believed the Coyotes are interested in Joni Pitkanen, Ethan Moreau and Rob Schremp in exchange. He also mentioned a possible swap between Shawn Horcoff and Marc Savard of the Boston Bruins.
The NHLPA has officially nominated Paul Kelly for the position of Executive Director. Source
Former Calgary Flames General Manager Craig Button has agreed to coach three games for the Israeli national junior team on their tour of Winnipeg, Chicago and New York.
