According to sources, there is a rumor that the Toronto Maple Leafs are looking at Minnesota Wild defenseman Marco Scandella. There has been talk that Leafs defenseman Jake Gardiner is unhappy playing in the AHL. Brochu's take: Perhaps a Scandella and Gardiner swap would make sense for both teams.

Weekend rumor roundup for Feb 14-15, 2009
Adrian Dater of the Denver Post believes the Colorado Avalanche will make a deal this week involving one or more of defensemen Jordan Leopold, Brett Clark and Ruslan Salei. Dater also shoots down the Ryan Smyth rumors, citing that he has a no trade clause, along with family and contractual issues. Brochu's take: I agree that Smyth is not on the block, but I'm sure some NHL teams have asked about him. As for the three defenseman, it's more than likely that at least one will be traded before the deadline. Source
Pierre LeBrun reports that the Ottawa Senators will definitely trade forward Chris Neil before the trade deadline if he doesn't sign a contract extension.
LeBrun also reports that the Buffalo Sabres have asked to start contract negotiations with forward Tim Connolly. It still remains a possibility that the Sabres could deal Connolly if they don't come to terms before the deadline.
The Carolina Hurricanes are likely to put defenseman Frantisek Kaberle on re-entry waivers in the next 10 days. LeBrun speculates that any team willing to pick up Frantisek might have an inside edge on acquiring Toronto Maple Leafs defenseman Tomas Kaberle, who has expressed an interest in playing with his brother. NHL and Hockey Rumors for Jan 28, 2009
The Detroit Red Wings have announced a 2 p.m. press conference Wednesday at Joe Louis Arena, when they will announce the signing of Henrik Zetterberg to a long-term contract extension. Speculation is that the deal is in the 10-year, $70 million range, although reports tonight indicate that the deal is more in the 8-year, $58 million range. Brochu's take: A ten year deal is risky in today's NHL. Zetterberg will be in his late 30's by the end of the contract. ***** New update, 9:13 pm**** Zetterberg has officially signed a 12-year, $72 million contract! Brochu's take: WOW! A bargain at $6 million per, but the length still scares me. Source

NHL and Hockey Rumors for Dec 1, 2008
Al Strachan on "The Hotstove" of CBC's Hockey Night in Canada broadcast reported that the Calgary Flames are shopping Mike Cammalleri, and are looking for a rugged winger in return. Brochu's take: I doubt that he is being shopped, as his play has really picked up in the last few weeks.

Dater also reports that interest in trading defenseman Brett Clark has been lost due to the injury to Adam Foote. Brochu's take: I'm pretty sure Dater reported this Afinogenov rumor sometime last year, but I'm not sure. There hasn't been much interest in Afinogenov from any NHL team. Source
Tim Sassone of the Chicago Daily Herald is reporting that the Blackhawks are possibly shopping forward Martin Havlat, who has struggled of late. He believes that the Montreal Canadiens may be interested. Brochu's take: The Habs have been looking for a high scoring forward, but I don't think Havlat would fit into their system. Source

It's been a busy week for NHL rumors, so here's what's been happening this weekend:
Larry Brooks of the New York Post believes that the Toronto Maple Leafs are already shopping defenseman Jeff Finger, who was signed to a four-year, $14 million contract this past summer. Brochu's take: Finger just came off the injury list, and they want to trade him? Source

Bloggers aren't the only ones making stuff up, folks.
