Hockey and NHL rumors for Oct 5, 2009

Sorry again for not updating, but here we go!

The Florida Panthers have signed forward Dominic Moore to a one-year, $1.1 million contract.

The Columbus Blue Jackets have signed defenseman Rostislav Klesla to a 4-year, $11.9 million contract. Brochu's take: That's a pretty good deal for an underrated defenseman, and should clear the trade rumors that surround him constantly.

The Dallas Stars have signed forward Loui Eriksson to a 6-year, $25.5 million. Brochu's take: Should Eriksson reach 40 goal potential, this deal will be a steal. Even if he keeps his current rate of production, it's a smart deal.

The Carolina Hurricanes have signed goalie Cam Ward to a 6-year, $37.8 million contract. Brochu's take: That's a lot of money. Ward has won a Cup, but is he really worth +6 million a year?

The Tampa Bay Lightning have signed forward Carter Ashton to a three-year, entry-level contract.

NHL and hockey rumors for June 28, 2008

The New York Post is reporting that Jaromir Jagr has received a three-year, $35 million contract offer to play with Avangard Omsk of the Russian Super League (KHL) next season. Brochu's take: Jagr claims that he wants to play in the NHL, but he won't be earning anywhere near that playing in North America. If he doesn't find a team, he's gone. Source

The Calgary Flames forwards Daymond Langkow, Craig Conroy and Erik Nystrom to contract extensions. The Flames have also signed goalie Curtis McElhinney.

The Anaheim Ducks have place forward Todd Bertuzzi on waivers with the intent to buyout the remaining year on his contract. Bertuzzi has one year left on his $4 million a year contract.

The Florida Panthers have bought out the contract of forward Jozef Stumpel, making him an unrestricted free agent.

The New York Islanders have placed forward Shawn Bates on waivers with the intention to buyout the remaining year on his contract.

The Columbus Jackets have put defenseman Duvie Westcott on waivers with the intention to buyout the remainder of his contract.

The Dallas Stars have signed forward Loui Eriksson to a two-year, $3.2 million contract extension.

The Philadelphia Flyers have officially signed forward Jeff Carter to a three-year, $15 million contract extension.

Habs interested in Eriksson?

According to a source, several Montreal Canadiens scouts have been spotted at the Dallas Stars affiliate in Iowa, keeping an eye on forward Loui Eriksson. Eriksson had been a healthy scratch for Dallas for several games and sent down to Iowa for more playing time.

The NHL is looking into an incident involving Sean Avery and Jason Blake that happened on Saturday. The FAN 590 in Toronto reported that an unnamed Rangers player said Avery ignited a scuffle with Leafs forward Darcy Tucker because of insensitive remarks towards Blake. The league is expected to speak with Avery about the incident some time this week, possibly Tuesday. Source

Brochu's European round-up:

Russian Super League team Locomotiv Yaroslavl has offered David Aebischer a contract around $1 million dollars. Aebischer is currently playing for the Phoenix Coyotes AHL affiliate. It's also believed that Swiss Nationalliga A teams HC Lugano and ZSC Lions have shown interest in signing the goaltender. Source

Jason York may be close to signing with Fribourg-Gottéron of the Swiss Nationalliga A. Source
