Sorry about the lack of updates lately, I have been involved in another hockey-related project and it's been taking up my time. But I should be updating the blog regularly in the lead-up to the 2009 NHL Entry Draft!
The Vancouver Canucks have re-signed forward Rick Rypien to a two-year, $1.1 million contract.
The Pittsburgh Penguins have signed defenseman Robert Bortuzzo to a three-year, entry-level contract. Bortuzzo was the Pens' third round pick in the 2007 NHL Entry Draft.
The Edmonton Oilers have signed defenseman Alex Plante to a three-year, entry-level contract. The Oilers took Plante in the 1st round of the 2007 NHL Entry Draft. (edit. Thanks for the correction!)
The Carolina Hurricanes have signed forward Chris Terry to a three-year, entry-level deal. Terry was the Canes' 5th round pick in the 2007 NHL Entry Draft.
The New York Islanders have signed forward Micheal Haley to a one-year, two-way NHL contract. Haley had been playing for the Isles' AHL affiliate in Bridgeport.

The Montreal Canadiens have officially signed free agent forward Mikael Johansson to a one-year, two-way contract. The 23-year-old Johansson has spent the past four seasons with Farjestads BK Karlstad of the Swedish Elite League.
The Florida Panthers have signed free agent goaltender Alexander Salak to a contract. The 22 year old Czech native has spent the last two seaons with Finnish club TPS. Source
The New York Rangers have signed free agent forward Andres Ambuhl to a contract. Ambuhl has played for HC Davos in Switzerland for the past several seasons. Source
New York Islanders defenseman Thomas Pock has left the organization and signed a contract with Swiss club Rapperswil. Source

NHL and Hockey Rumors for April 8, 2009
The Anaheim Ducks have signed free agent forward Dan Sexton to a two-year, entry-level contract. Sexton has spent the past two seasons with Bowling Green State University. Source
The New York Islanders have signed defenseman Mark Katic to a three-year, entry-level contract. Katic was the Isles' third round pick in the 2007 NHL Entry Draft. Source
The Islanders have also re-signed forward Doug Weight to a one-year, $2.2 million contract extension, with bonuses.
The Ottawa Senators have signed coach Cory Clouston to a two-year contract.

Forwards Linus Omark and Johan Harju, who have played well for Lulea of the Swedish Elite League this season, have decided to sign with Dynamo Moskva (Moscow) of the KHL for the 2009-2010. The respective draft picks of the Edmonton Oilers and Tampa Bay Lightning were expected to sign with their NHL teams, but agent Patrik Aronsson has confirmed the transfer. Brochu's take: Omark has been the talk of the hockey world with his outrageous shootout goal on Youtube. They'll both get top-6 minutes in Russia, something they would never get in North America. Swiss reports are saying that the Toronto Maple Leafs, Edmonton Oilers and Chicago Blackhawks have expressed their interest in forward Andres Ambuhl. Ambühl has an exit clause in his contract with HC Davos if he signs an offer from outside of Switzerland. Brochu's take: NHL teams have been keeping an eye on him for sometime. NHL and Hockey Rumors for Dec 29, 2008
Newsday is reporting that, according to a NHL source, New York Islanders GM Garth Snow is seeking draft picks in exchange for centre Doug Weight, who has attracted trade interest from several teams. Brochu's take: Weight's name has been in the rumor mill lately, but I suspect Snow will hold on to him until closer to the deadline, where he can get maximum value for him. Source
According to the "Hockey Guy" blog on STLtoday.com, the St. Louis Blues and Montreal Canadiens have been scouting each other closely, and Tomas Plekanec is rumored to be involved in the talks. Apparently, GM Bob Gainey is "looking to mix things up." Brochu's take: This is the first time I've seen Plekanec's name come up in trade talks. I doubt that Gainey would subtract from his roster; it's more than likely he will add someone. Source
The San Jose Sharks have signed forward Claude Lemieux to a two-way contract. Brochu's take: If Lemieux makes it back to the NHL, Kris Draper better watch out!

In 32 games this season, Pyörälä has scored 10 goals and amassed 16 assists. Brochu's take: Rumours are that the Chicago Blackhawks, Vancouver Canucks and Toronto Maple Leafs are interested. Source
