The New York Rangers have re-signed defenseman Steve Eminger to a one-year, $750,000 contract.  Brochu's take:  A good depth defenseman for that price.

Hockey and NHL rumors for Sept 6, 2009

The Chicago Blackhawks have traded their 2nd round pick in the 2010 NHL Entry Draft to the Toronto Maple Leafs for a 2nd and 3rd round pick in the 2011 draft. TSN is reporting that there are rumors that GM Brian Burke may throw an offer sheet to Boston Bruins restricted free agent forward Phil Kessel. Brochu's take: Burke can give an offer sheet, now that he has that 2nd round pick. But I don't think he will, considering his dislike for offer sheets in general.

The Anaheim Ducks have traded forward Jason Bailey to the Ottawa Senators for forward Shawn Weller.

The Ducks have signed defenseman Steve Eminger to a two-year, $2.25 million contract.

The Edmonton Oilers have re-signed forward Rob Schremp to a one-year contract. Brochu's take: I think Schremp will be a big trade chip for the Oilers this season, and look for him to be possibly moved at the trade deadline.

The Columbus Blue Jackets have signed forward Derick Brassard to a 12-year, $12.8 million contract extension.

The BJs have also signed forward Alex Picard to a one-year deal.

Trade deadline wrap-up, Part 2

The Toronto Maple Leafs have traded forward Nik Antropov to the New York Rangers in exchange for a second round draft pick as well as a conditional draft pick. Brochu's take: I guess the price came down after all, as GM Brian Burke was asking for a first. The Rangers seem to be making a big run in the playoffs.

The Leafs also traded forward Dominic Moore to the Buffalo Sabres in exchange for a second round draft pick. Brochu's take: Burke continues to collect more picks.

The Tampa Bay Lightning have also traded goalie Olaf Kolzig, defencemen Jamie Heward and Andy Rogers and a fourth-round pick to the Toronto Maple Leafs in exchange for a prospect Richard Petiot. Brochu's take: What??? How did the NHL even allow such a trade to happen. Yes, it's a pure salary dump, but teams should at least make the deal somewhat fair. Maple Leafs win this one, no question.

Tampa Bay Lightning have traded defenseman Steve Eminger to the Florida Panthers for defenceman Noah Welch and a third round draft pick.

The Bolts also traded forward Mark Recchi and a second round draft pick in the 2010 NHL Entry Draft to the Boston Bruins in exchange for defenseman Matt Lashoff and forward Martins Karsums. Brochu's take: A fairly even trade, as Recchi could be a good playoff performer. Lashoff and Karsums are good young players that will probably be traded by the Bolts in the summer. ;-)

The Boston Bruins have added some defensive depth and toughness by acquiring Steve Montador from the Anaheim Ducks for forward Petteri Nokelainen.

Carle and a 3rd for Eminger, Downie and a 4th

The Philadelphia Flyers have traded Steve Eminger, Steve Downie and a 4th round pick in the 2009 NHL Entry Draft to the Tampa Bay Lightning for Matt Carle and a 3rd round pick. Brochu's take: Carle could not find the ice time in Tampa. The Flyers finally get the puck-moving defenseman they've been looking for. Source

NHL and hockey rumors for June 30, 2008

The Edmonton Oilers have traded forward Jarret Stoll and defenseman Matt Greene to the Los Angeles Kings in exchange for defenseman Lubomir Visnovsky. Brochu's take: This could mean the end of Joni Pitkanen's stay in Edmonton, but there is still a small chance he will be re-signed. There are also rumors that the Ottawa Senators are looking to trade Antoine Vermette to the Oilers for the Finnish defenseman.

The Tampa Bay Lightning have acquired the negotiating rights to forward Brian Rolston from the Minnesota Wild for a conditional pick in the 2009 or 2010 NHL Entry Draft. The pick will depend on if Tampa can re-sign Rolston to a contract.

The Tampa Bay Lightning have agreed to a seven-year, $31.5 million contract with Ryan Malone. Brochu's take: Some were saying Malone could get $5 million on the open market, so in some ways this is a bargain.

The Bolts have also signed Gary Roberts to a one-year, $1.25 million contract with performance incentives that could increase the salary to $2 million.

The Colorado Avalanche have re-signed defenseman John-Michael Liles to a 4-year deal worth slightly over $4 million a year. The Avs also re-signed defenseman Adam Foote to a two-year, $6 million contract.

The Philadelphia Flyers have re-signed defenseman Steve Eminger to a one-year deal.
