Oilers to pursue Souray

The Oilers are pursing a number of key free agents in the offseason. GM Kevin Lowe is very interested in Sheldon Souray, who will become a UFA this offseason. The defenseman from Elk Point, Alberta wants to move closer to the West Coast to be closer to his daughter. There has been some talk about the Oilers targetting Kimmo Timmonen as well.

Jack Johnson has signed with the LA Kings and will make his debut on Tuesday.

Columbus GM Doug MacLean is on the hot seat and could very well be fired at the end of the season.

Tootoo gets 10 games?

According to league sources, Jordin Tootoo will get suspended for 10 games for his sucker-punch on Stephane Robidas. There is also speculation that Mike Modano may be suspended several games for his part in the game.

The NHL is investigating the new "Hawkeye" technology that is being implemented in England for their soccer matches that would determine if a ball crossed the goal line. The EPL is hoping for a 2008-09 debut of this technology, while the NHL may do it the following year.

Drury to be odd man out

Sources in Buffalo have indicated that the Sabres will sign Daniel Briere in the offseason and will let Chris Drury leave via free agency. The Sabres would like to sign both, but there is only so much cap room and the Sabres have a lot of young talent that can replace him. It is believed that the Canucks, Canadiens, Thrashers and the Ducks are interested.

There is a rumour that GM George McPhee may be let go this season.
