NHL and Hockey Rumours for Jan 22, 2014

The Calgary Flames have re-signed forward Matt Stajan to a four-year, $12.5 million contract extension.

The New York Rangers have signed free agent goalie David LeNeveu to a one-year, two-way contract.

The Boston Bruins have re-signed defenseman Kevan Miller to a two-year, $1.6 million contract extension.

The New Jersey Devils have placed forward Cam Janssen on waivers.

The Washington Capitals have placed defenseman Steve Oleksy on waivers.

According to TSN's Pierre LeBrun, the Ottawa Senators and Los Angeles Kings have made Buffalo Sabres forward Matt Moulson their top target.

Hockey and NHL rumors for Aug 13, 2009

The Tampa Bay Lightning have sent forward Evgeny Artyukin to the Anaheim Ducks in exchange for forward Drew Milller and a third round draft pick in the 2010 NHL Entry Draft.

The Edmonton Oilers have re-signed defenseman Ladislav Smid to a two-year deal, and have signed forwards Gilbert Brule and Ryan Stone to one-year, two-way deals.

The San Jose Sharks have re-signed goalie Thomas Greiss to a two-year contract.

Nikolai Zherdev is expected to sign a deal with KHL team Salavat Yulaev. Zherdev became a free agent when the New York Rangers refused to accept his arbitration salary.

The San Jose Sharks have signed Swedish goalie Henrik Karlsson to a contract. Karlsson was a free agent that played with Farjestad last season. Source

NHL and hockey rumors for Sept 20, 2008

The Buffalo Sabres have signed forward Jason Pominville to a 5 year, $26.5 million contract extension. Brochu's take: And the population of Pominville increases by $5.3 million per year...

The Anaheim Ducks have told defenseman Mathieu Schneider not to attend training camp, as something may be "imminent". A trade may happen as soon as this weekend.

The Ducks have also signed free agent forward Teemu Selanne to a pro tryout contract, which will allow Selanne to attend training camp and participate in practises. Selanne will sign a contract as soon as the Ducks deal with their cap space problems. Selanne has also mentioned that he may be willing to sign a two-year deal, which will allow him to play in the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver.

The Ducks have also signed forward Drew Miller to a two-year deal worth $525,000 per year.

The Philadelphia Flyers have signed goaltender Jean-Sebastien Aubin to a one-year contract.

The Flyers will place defenseman Derian Hatcher on long-term IR after their first game. This will save $3.5 million in cap space for the Flyers.

The Los Angeles Kings have told forward Patrick O'Sullivan to not attend training camp until they resolve their contract negotiations. O'Sullivan is a restricted free agent and rumors continue to fly about the Kings trading the young forward.

Calgary Flames forward Marcus Nilson will be playing for Yaroslavl Lokomotiv of the KHL. The Flames and the Russian have come to an agreement wherein the Flames will pay Nilson's $1 million salary, but won't count against the cap.

Flames assistant coach Wayne Fleming has also left his job and taken the head coaching job for KHL team Avangard Omsk.

NHL free agent signings for July 18, 2008

The Buffalo Sabres have signed goalie Ryan Miller to a 5-year contract extension worth $6.25 million a year.

The Edmonton Oilers have signed goaltender Jeff Drouin-Deslauriers to a two-year contract.

The Atlanta Thrashers agreed to terms with center Angelo Esposito on a multi-year contract.

The Los Angeles Kings have signed forward David Meckler to a three-year, entry-level contract.

The New York Rangers agreed to terms with defenseman Brian Fahey.

The Columbus Blue Jackets have re-signed defenseman Aaron Rome to a one-year contract.

The Phoenix Coyotes have signed center Garth Murray to a one-year contract. The Yotes also signed left wing Jeff Hoggan and defenseman Ryan Lannon to one-year contracts.

The St. Louis Blues have re-signed defenseman Jeff Woywitka to a one-year contract, and have signed defenseman Andy Wozniewski to a contract.

NHL rumors for April 9, 2008

According to the Buffalo News, the Sabres want to sign Ryan Miller to a long-term contract extension, but the question is, does he want to? Miller wants to meet with management to see the direction of the franchise before he commits to any new deal. Brochu's take: Miller's seen some of the best players on his team leave year after year; Daniel Briere, Chris Drury and Brian Campbell. Will Buffalo open the bank to sign him?

The San Jose Sharks have signed forward Frazer McLaren and defensemen David MacDonald and Mike Moore.

Cleary to sign 5-year extension?

The Detroit Red Wings blog on Mlive.com is reporting that the Red Wings and forward Dan Cleary have agreed on a 5-year contract extension, and are working out the details for the dollar value. Cleary wants to get a deal done before he becomes a UFA on July 1. The deal is rumored to average around $2.5 million to $3 million a year. Source

The rumor around Buffalo is that goaltender Ryan Miller could become the future goalie of the Detroit Red Wings. With the Sabres allowing its' big free agents walk (or traded), Miller could be headed to his home state of Michigan. The goaltender is due to be an UFA in July 2009. Source

According to Swiss newspaper Blick, Travis Roche could be leaving the AHL San Antonio Rampage and sign with SC Bern of the Swiss Nationalliga A. Roche is property of the Phoenix Coyotes. Source

There's been some more fuel added to the Adam Foote controversy. Foote had allegedly "threatened to be a bad teammate" if he stayed with the Columbus Blue Jackets. Also, the Columbus Dispatch Blue Jackets "Puck-rakers" blog reported that Calgary Flames coach Mike Keenan knew ahead of time that Foote would be traded to the Colorado Avalanche and his equipment guys helped sew "52" and "Foote" on an Avs jersey before the trade was "officially" announced.

Blackhawks and Senators swapping goalies?

TSN is reporting a rumor that Ottawa Senators GM Bryan Murray and Chicago Blackhawks GM Dale Tallon were considering a crazy trade that would involve swapping goaltenders Martin Gerber and Ray Emery for Nikolai Khabibulin and Patrick Lalime.

The Detroit Red Wings have made several offers to their impending free agents. The Wings would like to sign forward Dan Cleary to a long-term deal for $2.5 million a season, but he could earn more on the open market. Defenseman Andreas Lilja has been offered a two-year deal worth a little more than $1 million a season. Defenseman Chris Chelios will be offered another one-year deal after the season.

The club hopes to sign forward Henrik Zetterberg to a long-term deal for five or seven years in the neighborhood of $7 million a season during the first week of July. He has one year left on a deal that averages $2.65 million a season and can't be signed to an extension until July 1. Source

There are rumours that Buffalo Sabres goalie Ryan Miller could be moving to another team next year. Miller does not seem to be in a hurry to negotiate. Miller earns $2.5 million this year, and will eran to $3.5 million next season, the last in his three-year deal. A report in The Buffalo News has suggested the goaltender would be looking for a six-year contract worth around $41 million. Source

The acquisition of Cristobal Huet by the Washington Capitals have upset goaltender Olaf Kolzig, who is a UFA this summer. "I guess I'll talk with my wife about what we want to do next year or the year after." said Kolzig. He will most likely move to a new team in the summer. Source

Bernier available, Canucks to sell?

According to The Province columnist Ed Willes, the Vancouver Canucks "would be better off selling rather than buying at the trade deadline." Willes believes that forwards Markus Naslund, Byron Ritchie, Matt Cooke and defenseman Aaron Miller could fetch a return. Source

The Edmonton Journal believes that San Jose Sharks forward Steve Bernier could be shopped to bring a defenseman at the trade deadline. Source

Scouts from three teams were at the Phoenix Coyotes-Dallas Stars game Monday night. The Montreal Canadiens, Minnesota Wild and Florida Panthers were represented. Joe Nieuwendyk is serving as Florida's scout. Source

There are rumors that Calgary Flames prospect Dan Ryder may be returning to the organization soon. Ryder, brother of Montreal Canadiens forward Michael Ryder, left the Quad City Flames (Flames AHL affiliate) earlier this year under mysterious circumstances. Source

The Dallas Stars have signed forward Krys Barch to a two-year, $1.15 million contract extension.

The Pittsburgh Penguins have signed minor-league defenseman Deryk Engelland to a two-year contract extension.

Niedermayer suspended

Scott Niedermayer has been officially suspended by the Anaheim Ducks. It is strictly a formality to give the Ducks' cap space. Niedermayer still has not made a decision on his future.

Aaron Miller will undergo minor abdominal surgery and may miss some of the Vancouver Canucks preseason. GM Dave Nonis has noted that a team ususally needs "7,8 or 9" defenseman a season. He is hoping youngsters like Luc Bourdon and Alex Edler can step up, while looking for free agent depth.

The Boston Bruins have acquired center/right wing Petteri Nokelainen from the New York Islanders in exchange for center prospect Ben Walter and a conditional second-round draft choice in 2009. Source

NHL player agent Brian Lawton has resigned from his agency Octagon and is pursuing a job in NHL management. He wants to be involved in the day-to-day operations of an NHL team. Source
