NHL and Hockey Rumors for March 28, 2013

Update:  The Iginla to Bruins is almost confirmed, awaiting formal confirmation.  Look on the other sites to find more info, I will probably post my opinion tomorrow.

The Dallas Stars have traded forward Brendan Morrow and a 3rd round pick in the 2013 NHL Entry Draft to the Pittsburgh Penguins in exchange for defenseman Joe Morrow and a 5th round pick.  Brochu's take:  It may be a lot for an aging Morrow, but the Pens leveraged a deep prospect pool to get a player that will help in the playoffs.

The Penguins also acquired defenseman Douglas Murray from the San Jose Sharks in exchange for a 2nd round pick in the 2013 Entry Draft and a conditional 2nd in the 2014 Draft.

The Carolina Hurricanes have re-signed forward Alexander Semin to a 5-year, $35 million contract extension.  Brochu's take:  Semin has the skills of $7 million player, but the head of an AHLer.  And the NHL wonders why there are teams with cap trouble.

The Ottawa Senators have signed free agent forward Buddy Robinson to a three-year, entry-level contract.

The Carolina Hurricanes have placed forwards Tim Wallace and Jussi Jokinen on waivers.

The Boston Bruins have claimed forward Kaspars Daugavins off waivers from the Ottawa Senators.  Brochu's take:  Now he can do his shootout move to someone other than Tuukka Rask.

Signings and Waiver update for Jun 29, 2009

I will be constantly updating the blog in the next few days until Free Agency Day! So thanks for reading.

The Chicago Blackhawks have re-signed forward David Bolland to a five-year, $16.875 million contract extension. Brochu's take: This was rumored at the draft, so now it's official. Big overpayment if you ask me.

The Carolina Hurricanes have signed forward Jussi Jokinen to a two-year, $3.4-million contract extension.

The following NHL players have been placed on unconditional waivers, for the purposes of buying out their contracts. St. Louis Blues defenseman Jay McKee ($4 million), Boston Bruins forward Peter Schaefer ($2.1 million) and Florida Panthers forward Brett McLean ($1.7 million). The salary in brackets is their expected salary in 2009-2010.

The Pittsburgh Penguins have re-signed forward Craig Adams to a two-year, $1.1 million contract extension.

Lightning/Hurricanes trade, Avery on waivers

The Tampa Bay Lightning have traded forward Jussi Jokinen to the Carolina Hurricanes in exchange for defenseman Wade Brookbank, Josef Melichar and a fourth-round draft pick in 2009. Brochu's take: A pretty even hockey trade. Jokinen earns $1.81 million, while Melichar and Brookbank make a combined $1.475 million. The Bolts get a nice extra draft pick for taking on an extra contract. Source

The Dallas Stars have placed forward Sean Avery on waivers. Brochu's take: His journey back to New York City begins.

The Toronto Sun is reporting that New York Rangers scout Rick Kehoe has been following the Calgary Flames across the continent. Flames GM Darryl Sutter is said to have liked Rangers forward Nigel Dawes in the past. Brochu's take: Dawes could be available at the right price. Source

Nashville Predators scout Ray Knickle continues to monitor the Calgary Flames. The Flames might be willing to part with forward Matthew Lombardi for a defenceman such as Dan Hamhuis, writer Mike Zeisberger suggests. Brochu's take: I don't think Calgary needs another defenseman, and the loss of Lombardi would really kill their depth. Look for the Flames to add to their roster, not subtract.

Ducks/Canucks trade, Jokinen waived

I will be blogging shortly after TSN's Countdown to TradeCentre NHL trade deadline special with any rumors that haven't been reported lately.

The Vancouver Canucks have traded forward Mike Brown to the Anaheim Ducks for defenseman Nathan McIver. McIver had cleared waiver earlier Thursday.

The Tampa Bay Lightning have placed forward Jussi Jokinen on waivers.

According to Pierre McGuire on the Team 1040 radio in Vancouver, several NHL teams have been inquiring about Canucks defenseman Shane O'Brien. McGuire reported that it's well known that GM Mike Gillis is shopping O'Brien around the league. Brochu's take: Rumors are that the Toronto Maple Leafs are very interested in him.

Pierre LeBrun is reporting that the Atlanta Thrashers are shopping forward Erik Christensen, and some teams are interested. Brochu's take: LeBrun also has a list of the latest rumors, but nothing new other than Christensen. He could be had for a mid-round pick. Source

Adrian Dater on the Denver Post is reporting reports scouts from the Pittsburgh Penguins and New York Rangers were at the Colorado Avalanche-Calgary Flames game. Source

NHL and Hockey Rumors for Dec 20, 2008

The Pittsburgh Penguins have traded forward Jonathan Filewich to the St. Louis Blues for a conditional sixth-round pick in the 2010 NHL Entry Draft.

The Pens have also re-signed forward Maxime Talbot to a two-year, $2.1 million contract extension.

The Tampa Bay Lightning have placed forward Jussi Jokinen on waivers. Brochu's take: At this rate, the whole organization is going to be put on waivers.

Brochu's European rumor roundup:

The Columbus Blue Jackets have terminated goaltender Fredrik Norrena's contract, after he cleared unconditional waivers. Norrena has subsequently signed a contract with KHL club Ak Bars Kazan. Source

Weekend rumor roundup

According to Bruce Garrioch of the Ottawa Sun, the Vancouver Canucks are "quietly shopping" defenseman Mattias Ohlund. Ohlund has one year left on his contract, and the Ottawa Senators could be interested in him. Garrioch also suggests that the Carolina Hurricanes are willing to trade defenseman Frantisek Kaberle and Joe Corvo. Brochu's take: The Hurricanes actually do need defenseman to play NHL games, despite what Garrioch thinks. Ohlund has a no trade clause in his contract, and is unlikely to waive it. Source

The St. Petersburg Times is reporting that there are rumors that the Tampa Bay Lightning are trying to trade forwards Michel Ouellet, Jussi Jokinen and Jason Ward to make some salary cap space. Source

Jim Matheson of the Edmonton Journal is suggesting that the Calgary Flames may send defenseman Adrian Aucoin to the Los Angeles Kings. Brochu's take: This would bring the Kings up to the cap, but Aucoin is not a solution to the King's need for an offensive defenseman. Source

There have been several confirmed discussions between the Kings and Anaheim Ducks about defenseman Mathieu Schneider. It would seem a deal is inevitable. Source

Stay tuned for my European rumor roundup on Monday.

According to TBO.com, The Tampa Bay Lightning may have one or two more moves in the near future, and it could happen sometime this weekend. Writer Erik Erlendsson speculates that the Lightning could be signing defenseman Jason Smith, and forwards Jussi Jokinen and Michel Ouellet could be on the block. Brochu's take: Rumors are that the Canucks, Oilers and Leafs are interested in the forwards. Source

The Vancouver Province is reporting that UFA forward Brendan Morrison has rejected the Canucks offer of a one-year, $1.9 million contract and will sign with another team next week. Morrison is currently fielding offers from up to 9 teams. The Minnesota Wild may be the frontrunners to land the centre. Source

The Lightning have also signed forward Zenon Konopka to a two-year contract.

Brochu's European rumor roundup:
