NHL and hockey rumors for May 21, 2008

Colorado Avalanche forward Jaroslav Hlinka has signed a two-year contract with Linköping of the Swedish Elite League. Brochu's take: In 63 games in 2007-2008, Hlinka scored 8 goals and 20 assists. His turtleneck will be missed. Source

The Chicago Blackhawks have signed a trio of restricted Group 2 free agents to contracts. Forward Adam Burish, defenseman James Wisniewski and defenseman/forward Dustin Byfuglien have all agreed to terms with the 'Hawks. Brochu's take: There were rumors that some NHL teams were considering sending an offer sheet to Byfuglien. Looks like the Hawks are going to avoid problems by signing their restricted free agents early. Source

The Blackhawks also signed defenseman Tim Hambly to a contract.

The Boston Bruins have signed defenseman Aaron Ward to a multi-year contract extension. Terms were not disclosed. Source

The Florida Panthers have signed forward Brady Calla to an entry-level contract.

The Phoenix Coyotes have signed defenseman Jonas Ahnelov to an entry-level contract.

There are rumors that Pat Burns is the leading candidate to be the next head coach of the Ottawa Senators.
