NHL and Hockey Rumors for Nov 18, 2008

The Colorado Avalanche have re-signed forward Paul Stastny to a 5-year, $33 million contract extension. The yearly salary cap hit is $6.6 million. Brochu's take: A bit of a hometown discount, as there were rumors some NHL teams were going to offer him a lucrative offer sheet (>$7 million).

The Dallas Stars have put forward BJ Crombeen on waivers.

Edmonton Oilers head coach Craig MacTavish ripped into undeachieving foward Dustin Penner on Sunday, saying that "you can't throw gratuitous ice-time at a player that's inconsistent." Penner has been benched for the last two Oilers game, and MacTavish questions his competitiveness and fitness. Brochu's take: You have to wonder how long Penner will last in Edmonton. Source
