NHL and hockey rumors for Sept 13, 2008

The Chicago Blackhawks have traded centre Robert Lang to the Montreal Canadiens for a 2nd round pick in the 2010 NHL Entry Draft. Asked if the acquisition of Lang meant free agent Mats Sundin was no longer in their plans, Canadiens GM Bob Gainey replied "Yes." Brochu's take: Lang should fill that centre position for the Canadiens adequately. Gainey had some rather strong words for Sundin and his waffling. It would seem Gainey was tired of the Swedish forward's indecisiveness. Source

The Montreal Canadiens have also re-signed defensman Patrice Brisebois to a one-year, $750, 000 deal, with another possible $750,000 in bonuses.

The Phoenix Coyotes have traded Kevin Cormier to the New Jersey Devils for defenseman Sean Zimmerman. Source

The Devils have also signed forward Rod Pelley to a two-year, $1.1 million contract.

The Chicago Blackhawks have invited free agent forward Kevyn Adams to training camp on a try-out contract, and there are rumors that the Hawks will soon sign him to a contract.

According to some Washington reports, the Washington Capitals maybe considering trading young forwards Tomas Fleischmann and Boyd Gordon.
