NHL and hockey rumors for July 29, 2008

The Florida Panthers have avoided arbitration with defenseman Jay Bouwmeester and has signed him to a one-year, $4.875 million contract. It's believed Bouwmeester wants to test the unrestricted free agent market next season, when he will be 25 years old. Brochu's take: When the Florida Panthers are out of the playoff run (it's a question of when, not if), expect Bouwmeester to be shopped aggressively. It would seem Bo has no intention of staying in Sunrise any longer.

The Atlanta Thrashers have signed forward Matt Siddall to a multi-year contract.

The Boston Bruins have signed forwards Nate Thompson and Martin St. Pierre to undisclosed contracts.

The Ottawa Senators have signed goaltender Jeff Glass to a one-year, two-way contract.

There are rumors that the Los Angeles Kings and Phoenix Coyotes are interested in unrestricted free agent forward Martin Gelinas.

The Tampa Bay Lightning are expected to announce the signing of the No. 1 overall pick in the 2008 NHL Entry Draft, Steven Stamkos, to a three-year, entry level contract on Tuesday.
