Sanford on waivers, Columbus/Atlanta trade

The Vancouver Canucks have placed Curtis Sanford on waivers. Brochu's take: If he clears, the Canucks have promised to trade him to another team. Rumors are that the Columbus Blue Jackets, Dallas Stars and New York Islanders are the most interested.

The Atlanta Thrashers have traded forward Jason Williams to the Columbus Blue Jackets in exchange for defenseman Clay Wilson and a sixth round pick in the 2009 NHL Entry Draft.

The New York Islanders have held talks with free agent goaltender Wade Dubielewicz, who recently was bought out of his contract with Ak Bars Kazan of the KHL. Dubielewicz has talked to three NHL teams that are looking for help in the goaltending department. This could indicate that goalie Rick DiPietro's season could be over. Brochu's take: Dubielewicz has to clear waivers before he can play for the Islanders because he has already played this season with Kazan. Source

The New Jersey Devils have officially signed Brendan Shanahan to a one-year, $800,000 contract. He will receive approximately half of that for playing half of the NHL season.
