Marleau to Columbus?

According to the San Jose Sharks blog "Working the Corners", the San Jose Sharks and Columbus Blue Jackets are close to a deal. The Sharks would send Patrick Marleau and another unspecified player to the Blue Jackets for Nikolai Zherdev and 6th overall pick in the NHL entry draft. Brochu's take: This is a pretty big rumor. If GM Doug Wilson really wants to shake up his team, then this is it. Zherdev has played better under Hitchcock, but the Sharks don't even have a coach yet. Source

TSN is reporting that Ron Wilson has been offered a job to coach the Toronto Maple Leafs and is flying into Toronto to negotiate a deal. Earlier in the day, interim Cliff Fletcher let the media know that he had found his man and had gave him an offer. Brochu's take: This has again fueled rumors that Brian Burke will become the new GM of the Leafs, considering Burke and Wilson's close relationship. Source

The Palm Beach Post is reporting that the Florida Panthers have received permission from the Toronto Maple Leafs to speak with ex-coach Paul Maurice. Source

TSN's Darren Dreger reported that analyst Mike Milbury has been interviewed for the San Jose Sharks head coaching position.

The Tampa Bay Lightning have re-signed defenseman Alexandre Picard to a multi-year, one way deal. The Lightning have also defenseman Kevin Quick to a two-year, two-way contract.

The New York Islanders have signed forward Tim Jackman to a one-year contract extension through 2008-2009.
