The latest NHL rumors for May 7, 2008

Some rumors from the 2008 IIHF World Championships in Quebec City and Halifax:

The Edmonton Oilers have an interest in Slovakian forward Juraj Kolnik. Kolnik spent the season playing for HC Geneve-Servette of the Swiss Nationalliga A. Brochu's take: Kolnik does have an out-clause, but does he want to return to the NHL?

Radim Vrbata's strong play at the WC has increased his value in the free agent market. It's believed that Vrbata is seeking a $4 million a year contract from the Phoenix Coyotes.

In an interview with Sportnet, Markus Naslund expressed that he wants to play on an offensive team, and it's highly unlikely that he will sign with a team with a defense-first approach. Naslund also said he will wait for offers to come in before making a decision. Brochu's take: There's been a lot of speculation that Naslund WILL re-sign with the Canucks. It's looking more likely he will take a reduced salary to stay in Vancouver.

The Buffalo Sabres have signed forward Nathan Gerbe to a three-year, entry-level contract. The 5'5 from Boston College led his team to the 2008 NCAA Division 1 Championship.

The New York Islanders have signed right wing Joel Rechlicz to a three-year contract.

The Nashville Predators have signed free agent forward Ian McKenzie to a contract. Source

Brochu's European rumour roundup:

Vancouver Canucks prospect Jozef Balej has signed with HC Ocelari Trinec of the Czech Extraliga for the 2008-2009 season. Source

The Philadelphia Flyers have signed defenseman Jan Platil to a contract. Platil played for the Amur Tigers Khabarovsk of the Russian Super League.
